Monday Miniatures: Ape-X

50031_w_1

This week we take a break from fantasy figures to paint one of the few Sci-fi figures that was included in the bones set. Just as a rough guess, we are now about a quarter of the way through the minis from this Kickstarter. Only 3 or 4 more more years and we will have them all painted.

Days of Future Past is the X-Men Movie the People Deserve

X-Men!Today’s post is going to be short and sweet, thanks to a few (pleasant) developments in my life that have had me running around like a mad man this week.  I want to take a few moments to reflect on the heaping pile of awesome that is X-Men: Days of Future Past.  X-Men fans have finally gotten the movie they deserve. (light) Spoilers ahoy!

Everyone has heard that once something is put online it can never really be deleted. Somewhere it is still cached or mocked or debated. Somewhere an unfortunate picture from someone’s yearbook is about to be turned into another meme. Somewhere a quote that has been misattributed to (insert random luminary) is about to reiterated as gospel.

But much of what is out on the internet has never been seen by anyone, and is busy collecting dust. Fortunately, if you run a blog for a couple years, you start to get a little perspective thanks to all the data that WordPress harvests for you.

Monday Miniatures: Scenery

DragonsInn

Whether you are playing a RPG or doing some wargaming, good scenery can bring the action to life. This week, rather than asking everyone to paint the same mini, I wanted to see what everyone was working on in general. People sent in a little bit of everything.

Grousing About the Guardians

GOTG posterGodzilla more or less kicked off the summer a week early (just how well it did is highly debatable), but there are a ton of awesome movies slated for the blockbuster season–chief of which (in my mind, anyway) is August’s Guardians of the Galaxy.  No movie has me more psyched.  Hell, I don’t think any Marvel movie has had me more psyched (save for Avengers, perhaps).  A month ago, I didn’t think that Marvel could do wrong as far as GotG is concerned.  Now I’m not so sure.

Monday Miniatures: Undead Horde

77001_w_1

This week we are practically over run by the living dead. More than forty miniatures were painted this week in response to my call for a speed painting effort. That’s an outstanding turnout, and when you consider that each of these minis averaged less than 30 minutes a pop, I think that the quality is outstanding.

Cracking Down on Crowdfunding

photo-main

Last week Chris discussed the first real legal action to be brought against a project at a state level. The tag line for Asylum cards it seems was only two letters too many when it promised “NEVER to be re-printed.” Though he discussed the particulars of the case, and expressed concerns about the ramifications of such a move, I think there is more to be said on the subject.

This is a big deal. Really. Right up there with the Pebble, Ouya, or any of the other blockbusters that have shaped the face of crowdfunded projects. Events like this will shape the funding platforms and the laws that surround them.
