For today’s review, we need to set our Wayback Machine all the way to 2008. Remember 2008? Flo-Rida topped the Billboard charts, Paul Krugman won the Nobel Prize for Economics, and a plucky little comic about an atomic powered robot made waves in the comic world, up to narrowly missing an Eisner Award win for Best Comic Miniseries. 2008 was a party, and like most parties, I find myself arriving late. Today, I offer my review of Atomic Robo.
This week we do another mass painting exercise, and try to finish off another bunch of vermin. In this case, rats. This mini lacked much in the way of details, but the posing was actually much nicer than I thought it was during previous examinations.
So I went on a hike this weekend. An epic 18 mile affair. It’s possible I might have pushed myself a little too much. As a result, I am so sore I had to take the day off work. That will teach me to have hobbies outside of painting.
Nature turns out to be a wonderful painter in her own right, though.
Despite the variety contained in the Reaper bones set, I find myself returning again and again to the undead. Though they make up a minority of the total figure count, I think they are among the most interesting models to paint. The egyptians especially seem to have an above average level of detail to play with. This week’s artists do not disappoint when it comes to using that detail, either.
Original Sin, Marvel’s big summertime story arc, is chugging away with three issues already on store shelves. Like most of Marvel’s recent blowouts, the story has cosmic reach, but unlike say, Annihilation, Original Sin has a decidedly un-cosmic feel. Peek below the fold for my perspective on Marvel’s latest event. There will be some spoilers for issues 1 through 3 below. You have been warned!
A recent change in Minnesota law will allow companies within the state to sell stock directly to average citizens. The appropriately named mobcraft, was featured yesterday in the Journal Sentinel to discuss the implications of this story.
The article missed a chance to talk about how voting for the next flavor is already a part of this particular brewery’s business model unfortunately (which I take to mean that they aren’t in this for just a quick buck,) and instead focused largely on the old maxim of ‘buying locally.” Though that is an important idea, I think there are several more interesting issues in play.
Work monopolized my weekend, so I got no painting done. Fortunately I started on Thursday, so I still have something to post. I hope that all you loyal readers have had a much more relaxing week than I.
June 3rd saw the launch of one of the year’s most hotly anticipated MMORPG’s, Carbine’s science-fantasy tour de force, WildStar. It’s a highly polished game, and one of the most complete MMO’s I’ve had the pleasure to play at launch. I’ve had some free time this week to sample of WildStar’s delicious bounty. I’d like to share the top four features that make WildStar a game worth playing in my opinion.
