So this week I was on vacation. on the bright side, I really needed the relaxation time, but on the downside, I spent that time with friends, and got no painting whatsoever done. Fortunately there were some wonderful artists on the internet that picked up my slack.
Speaking of slacking though, I might be doing it for the next month or so. You see, I will be spending the next 4 weeks traveling for work, and though I might get some painting done, it will not be up to my usual standards. As always, life gets in the way. Whether or not I find the time to paint though, I will make sure that the minis are posted.
This week we tackle one of the uglier (in my opinion) minis of the collection. The rust, I mean – oxidation beast, is a creepy little bugger. I actually wasn’t sure what to expect, but it paints up rather nicely, as you will see if you look below.
One of the problems with the bones material, is that the bright white plastic makes it hard to tell what you are looking at sometimes. This piece especially lacks detail. The first time I picked it up I had to look at the Kickstarter to figure out what it was.
Despite its deeply problematic nature though, a couple painters achieved really fantastic results with it.

I was fortunate to see a preview screening of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy early this week. If you dread even the vaguest hint of an inkling of anything that could even be construed as something akin to a spoiler, then I leave you with this TL,DR: Guardians of the Galaxy is an incredibly imaginative, raucously fun flick. It’s totally worth a few hours of toil in the salt mines to pay for your ticket, and it’ll be a shame if you don’t see it ASAP. For the rest of my spoiler-free review, peek below the fold.
This week we take another crack at a whole pile of themed minis. The familiar bundle was one of the final stretch goals for the Kickstarter. Though we still have a long way to go, it does make for a nice milepost.
You might recall that my post from last week touched on the movie-fication of some of Marvel’s characters, most notably Nick Fury, by way of “Nick Fury Jr.” (anyone else hear the theme from James Bond Junior just then? No? Just me? Okay…), and Peter Quill, aka as the outlaw Star-Lord. As much as I love the movies, I’m not a huge fan of the films overly influencing how Marvel portrays their classic characters. That said, when Marvel decides to tweak a first string character, I take notice… and this week they announced changes to three of the core Avengers. That is noteworthy.
this week we shift gears to the old west. I really like this sculpt, though it would seem that not everyone else did; participation is always higher when fantasy figures are involved. Regardless, peak below if you want to see what people whipped up this week!
Today’s comic book review is not so indie as the last few. It also veers from review to rant a little bit, but whatevsies. With Guardians of the Galaxy poised to take the title of Greatest Movie Ever Made any day now (at least until Age of Ultron comes out… or maybe Star Wars VII… or Pacific Rim 2), I thought I’d take a look at one of Marvel’s crucial movie tie-in’s, intended to drum up excitement and dollars in advance of opening weekend. Peek below the fold for my thoughts on Legendary Star-Lord #1.
This week we delve into the underdark for a drow fashion show. Who would have known that there were so many varieties of black out there.
