If you’re a fan of AMC’s Comic Book Men, you might recall that towards the end of the last season, Walt Flanagan and his merry band of Comic Book Men visited New Jersey’s Dynamite Comics to pitch a new book featuring a, well, Cryptozoic Man. Guess what I got the other day? How does Cryptozoic Man square up in his battle against the Hype Machine? Peek below the fold to find out.
With October only just beginning some might say it is a little early for the dead to be walking, but I say it is never too early to get into the spirit. We’ve gotten great participation this week too!
Some people call me cheap.
I like to think of myself as “value conscious.”
To be honest, I’m probably neither, as I have a bad habit of spending money on deals that are “too good to pass up,” which is probably a net drain on my wallet. That said, I love package deals, and feeling like I’m getting more bang for my buck. So the recent trend towards “bundles” really speaks my language.
I’ll be honest with you – this week has not been particularly pleasant. Fortunately miniatures, both the kickstarting and the painting of continues to be a bright spot, and this week there is a lot to report, including 4 versions of the miniature painted above, and a recap on Reaper’s recent launch.
What are you waiting for? Let’s get right too it.
It’s been a helluva week—one of those weeks that are just full of ups and downs on all sorts of different scales. In keeping with that theme, this post is about the highs and lows that we Caffeineforgers noticed in the world of crowd funding this past week.
Peek below the fold to learn about the stories we’ve been following this week.
Last week author/swordsman/videogame entrepreneur Neal Stephenson announced that his Kickstarted medieval martial arts game Clang has stalled out while still in development. This is a disappointing turn for the 9000 or so backers who donated over 500 grand to realize the Clang team’s vision of a pitch perfect sword-swinging simulator, no doubt. Just skimming the project comments, it’s clear that a lot of backers have taken the project’s stall pretty hard—and who’s to blame them? After all, there is a lot of green on the table (well, there was anyway). I’ve been giving a lot of thought to Kickstarter success and failure lately, and the onus of responsibility in the event that a project collapses. I think this Clang kerfuffle is a perfect opportunity to talk it out.

Reaper launched it’s second project this week. Predictably, it is doing gangbusters.
Reaper started the Kickstarter mini trend in a big way this time last year (and incidentally got me hooked on the crowdfunding phenomena.) In the first 8 hours the project has raised three quarters of a million dollars and defeated 25 of their stretch goals.
