Miniature Monday – Hordlings

Sometimes, the denizens of Hell or the Abyss are horrible. Sometimes they are… cute?

Preface: Yay! Miniature Monday on a Monday! Well  😀

Since we have two Boes II Core Sets, but only one Set of Add-Ons, we had just three of the Hordlings to paint and split them between the two of us.

Dirk got one he painted in a classic impish way:

I love the lava base, and the red color scheme fits perfectly for a beastie from hell! He also did some light effects, on the base (a bit visible on the legs of the creature) and on the eyes – which looks way better in person, but perhaps you get at least an idea.

I had the tentacled one and made it, of course, a minion of Cthulhu:

While painting I used wetblending for blueish hands and feet towards a green body, with a hint of yellow on the tentacles. It is sitting on ocean’s floor, waiting for its master to rise, so I could use tiny and tiniest real shells that Dirk brought home from work. I love their fragile structures a lot!

The third one was also painted by me (Antonia) in a more funny way, as a… minion!

As you might remember the small hench”men” from the despicable me-movies, I chose a one-eyed one, gave it a bright yellow color and a blue jeans  :-p. And, like they had in one of the short films: Banana!

Okay, sillyness aside: The hordlings are, despite small or even tiny, very detailed and were quite fun to paint, also quick because they are so small  😉

  1. Silliness is good! All three look great, but I really like Dirk’s imp.

I have to apologize for no pic this week. I didn’t get the expansion with these guys during the Kickstarter and I have been waiting for weeks for mine to arrive! I promise to try and get the sinister Mr. Darkfathom finished on time.

    • Thanks, Jim! The little ones were kind of break because we could share them and in weeks we had the first weekend (partially) off work so it was fun to get painting again!
I’m looking forward to seeing your dark priest, he’s already on your work bench, right?
      Yours, Dirk

      • Yes, he was well started when I wrote that and I got a bunch of work done on him last night. He’ll be ready to spread evil and chaos by next Monday!

  2. I love Dirk’s imp: the way the face is painted reminds me of an African tribal mask. It becomes a cross between a demon and a witch-doctor, spooky!
A chtulu, why didn’t I think of that? In my mind it was a cross between a mind-flayer and a quasit. Nicely executed with the seabed and the tiny shells.
I was down with a virus, so no painting here. Might do one of the critters this week, because seeing yours inspires me.
