Miniature Monday – Mummy Queen and Sethis
Since we don’t want to be the only creatures around that stumble and shuffle about, always feeling they just awakened from a eternal slumber and should just have stayed in bed, let’s have a look at some
tired parents mummies this week!
(posting by Antonia)
The miniatures of the mummy queen and king are nice, with crisp detail and classic poses, although I’d really love to see a female mummy that’s less sexy and more scary, or at least wrapped in bandages, like a… mummy or something. But overall I still like her.
Dirk combined a bright color with rotting green:
To achieve a dusty, ages-old look he mostly worked with washes and contrast paints on a white foundation. I like how he used a bright turquise, that works well as a spot color and reminds me of the lapis lazuli in Tutankhamuns’s death mask, for example. The greenish-grey skin makes it obvious that we are dealing with undead here, even if they’re scantily wrapped. I love the overall look with the strong colors!
Jim’s mummies are deathly pale:
He wrote: “I really like these minis. The scuplts are good and the castings came out with sharp detail. I even like the posing! Admittedly, the female doesn’t really have enough wrapping, but that’s a minor issue. I toyed with the idea of painting her as a living queen, but in the end she joined her counterpart in the world of the undead. When I finished the male, I was pleased with the eerie white eyes, so I stopped there instead of going for red or green. I’m not sure this worked on the female and she feels a little incomplete overall in my opinion.”
I get what you mean Re:eyes, maybe because she could need a bit more contrast in the area. What about some eye makeup like Timothy’s queen shows below? The white eyes and the dead pale skin are great on both of them anyway, they look wonderfully “Monster Manual” undead to me, even a bit ghostly!
Timothy’s queen is, in fact, alive!
He said: “Fun miniatures, I gave him undead flesh and she was given human flesh but her eye makeup comes out a bit too intense but I figured ancient Egyptians liked that style.”
I like the makeup, khol lined eyes were indeed quite fashionable and it’s good to see a take on a living queen too, she would certainly make a good NPC as some sort of high priestress! As a proper queen she should probably get some putty/greenstuff robes though, in case the scene is not taking place in a bathhouse 😀
Michael’s mummies probably have nightvision:
He wrote: “Here are my mummies. I tried a bit of a glow effect with their eyes and the runes on the bases. Overall, pretty fun. Now on to Gauth!”
It’s cool to see the variations in skin tones this time – your mummies are very dark, maybe nubian/kush in origin, I love that! Blue and purple also look great with the darker skin, good choice!
07/20/20 Bones IV (Core Set) Gauth, Bipedal Dragon Part One (No. 7) – WIPs, e.g. first colors, basing, modifications…
This is a big one, so we’ll stretch it over two entries!
Want to participate in the next post? Email the pictures of your minis until Friday 07/17/20 to
MondayMiniature@fantasymail.de (It’s a .de domain, in case emails are bouncing)
–> Attention: The submission date for photos is about three days before publishing date, to give us a bit of time to actually write about your pictures
This way you’ll have two weeks/one weekend to paint, and we have one weekend to write (which is the only time of the week where we (might, *sigh*) have some open minutes).
You can of course send in pics later, but to take out a bit of the stress (most pics arrive here rather last minute) please consider the three day deadline. Later pics will still show up in an update
Here is the link to Reaper’s graphic with all the core pieces, but it’s one and veeeery long picture so be prepared for some scrolling. On the other hand it has separate numbers for most of the pieces. I will add individual shop links as soon as they appear!
Here is the underdark Add-on.
